On 28 April 2023, Punjab Kings (PBKS) took on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the ongoing IPL. The 38th match of the ongoing tournament took place in Mohali, Punjab. In the reverse fixture, PBKS registered a victory over LSG. So, PBKS were looking to do a double-over LSG in front of the home crowd.

Before this match, PBKS were in the sixth position with eight points in seven games. In contrast, LSG were in the fourth position with eight points in seven games. Speaking of the match, PBKS fans became happy when they saw Shikhar Dhawan come out for the toss. He won the toss and opted to bowl first.

LSG defeated PBKS by 56 runs in IPL 2023

For LSG, Kyle Mayers and skipper KL Rahul came out to bat. But, Rahul scored only 12 runs off nine balls. But, after that, LSG batters switched on their carnage mode and started to smash PBKS bowlers all around the park. Mayers scored 54 runs off 24 balls. Then, Ayush Badoni scored 43 runs off 24 balls and Marcus Stoinis scored 72 runs off 40 balls. Stoinis hit six fours and five sixes. Along with them, Nicholas Pooran also smashed 45 runs off 19 balls, including seven fours and one six. Thus, LSG registered the second-highest total on the board in the history of IPL.

They scored 257 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. For PBKS, Kagiso Rabada took two wickets while Arshdeep Singh, Sam Curran, and Liam Livingstone took one wicket each. To chase that mammoth total, skipper Shikhar Dhawan came out as an opener along with Prabhsimran Singh. But, PBKS batters fell under the pressure of the scoreboard as they lost three wickets for 109 runs in 11.3 overs. Atharva Taide scored 61 runs off 33 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. Then, other batters tried to score some runs quickly but finally, PBKS got bundled out for 201 runs in 19.5 overs. Thus, LSG defeated PBKS by 56 runs. For LSG, Naveen-ul-Haq took three wickets and Yash Thakur took four wickets.
