Speaking of the match, India skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to bowl first. However, the decision turned out to be a good one as India’s bowlers had a terrific outing.
Bangladesh got bundled out for just 152 runs in 43 overs. Due to rain, the match got reduced to a 44-over game. Along with her, Devika Vaidya took two wickets and Deepti Sharma grabbed one wicket.
Bangladesh Women defeated India Women for the first time in ODIs
Due to the DLS method, the target got revised to 154 in 44 overs. In reply, India Women were in all sorts of trouble after losing three wickets for 37 runs in 10 overs. But, they failed to recover from that collapse as finally, they got bundled out for just 113 runs in 35.5 overs. For Bangladesh, Marufa Akter took four wickets for 29 runs in seven overs.
Along with her, Rabeya Khan grabbed three wickets while both Nahida Akter and Sultana Khatun took one wicket each. Thus, the home team took a 1-0 lead as they won the game by 40 runs in the rain-interrupted game. It was a historic moment for Bangladesh Women as they defeated India Women for the first time in the history of ODI cricket.
After this historical win, Bangladesh skipper, Nigar Sultana said: "We thought we were short by 30 runs. It was the middle order and lower order runs that helped. We wanted to bowl them out inside 120. Our bowling was brilliant. Exceptional fielding too. We are proud. Our plan was to get early wickets. We just wanted to execute our plans. (On having variety in bowling) I am very much happy that we have every kind of bowler. Marufa is very talented, young and fresh, she makes my job easier. She doesn't think too much and just bowls according to plans."
Here is how fans have reacted:
Its Ok. Happens. Always a first time. Sports has winning and losing as two parts of same coin.
