Ahead of the ODI Cricket World Cup, Pakistan Cricket suffered a jolt of sorts as Mohammad Hafeez stepped down from the technical committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The committee comprised the famed trio of Misbah-ul-Haq, Hafeez and Inzamam-ul-Haq. The trio were to give periodic updates on the status of the Pakistan Team.

"I decided to leave Pakistan cricket technical committee. I served as honorary member. I would like to thank Zaka Ashraf sb for giving me this opportunity. I m always available whenever Zaka Ashraf sb needs my honest suggestions for Pakistan cricket. My best wishes for Pakistan cricket as always. Pakistan Zindabad" Hafeez said in a tweet. Hafeez has given a letter of resignation just two months after he accepted the job.

Recently the Pakistan Cricket Board held a meeting to discuss their lacklustre performance in Asia Cup 2023. Babar Azam, Grant Bradburn, Misbah and  Hafeez were some of the key figures to be present at the meeting. The cricket committee were trying to find out mistakes made and tried to give some changes that could be implemented. However, it appears that the coaches and the cricket committee are not on the same page. The coaches want to stick to the old formula.

This raised a lot of red flags as the coaches were reluctant to ring in the changes even after getting to know the mistakes that were made. In the meeting, backup plans were also discussed as in who could the team bring in if some unfortunate injuries were to occur. With Pakistan’s chief selector Inzamam not being there for the meeting it did not set a good precedent ahead of the World Cup.

Talking about Pakistan's Asia Cup campaign, Pakistan had a strong start with wins against Nepal in the group stage and Bangladesh in the Super Fours. But it all came crashing downhill for them later. The second India-Pakistan clash had a reserve day which allowed a result and gave two full points to the winning side, India, on that day.
