Australian fast bowler, Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the remainder of the Indian T20 League 2022 due to a hip injury. Cummins made his return to Kolkata’s playing XI in their last match against Mumbai. The Australia Test skipper bowled a crucial spell of 3 for 22 in 4 overs to help his team bundle out Mumbai for just 113 runs, thereby, winning the game by 52 runs in the end.

However, Cummins won’t be playing any further into the tournament as he has already left Kolkata’s bio bubble. The 29-year old fast bowler has returned his home to Sydney to start his rehabilitation. Due to the injury, Cummins will miss the upcoming T20 series against Sri Lanka but will be available for the Test series, which will be conducted thereafter.

It’s a busy year for Australia with the 20-20 World Cup also scheduled to be held this year. Thus, Pat Cummins would want him to be fully fit for the upcoming assignments. The Australian Test skipper didn’t have a great outing for Kolkata in this year’s edition of the Indian T20 League.

He came into the tournament on the back of impressive performances in the Test series in Pakistan. However, he couldn’t replicate those impactful performances in India. Although, he made the record of the second fastest fifty in the history of the Indian T20 League. With the ball, he picked 7 wickets in 5 matches. Three of those wickets came in the last game. He took all those wickets at an economy of 10.69.

Kolkata bought Pat Cummins services at the Mega Auctions for a prize of INR 7.25 crores. However, Australian pacer couldn’t live up to the expectations. Kolkata are languishing at the 7th on the points table with 5 wins in 12 matches and it’s unlikely that they will reach the playoffs.

Shreyas Iyer and Co. have two matches left to be played in the league stage. They are slated to play their next game against Hyderabad on Saturday at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
