On 14 April 2023, the stage was set at Eden Gardens as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) took on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing IPL. Both teams were coming off after a win from their respective last matches. However, the home crowd was hoping to see KKR continuing the winning momentum.

Speaking of the match, Nitish Rana won the toss and opted to bowl first. A high-scoring match was expected on this ground as star batters were filled in both teams. For SRH, Harry Brook and Mayank Agarwal came out to open the innings. But, Agarwal got out after scoring nine runs off 13 balls. 

Second consecutive victory for SRH in IPL 2023

Then, Rahul Tripathi scored nine runs off four balls, including two fours. SRH skipper Aiden Markram smashed 50 runs off 26 balls, including two fours and five sixes. He put up a solid partnership of 72 runs for the third wicket with Brook. After that, Abhishek Sharma scored a quickfire 32 runs off 17 balls, including three fours and two sixes. But, it was Harry Brook who lit up Eden Gardens. He scored 100* runs off 55 balls, including 12 fours and three sixes. In teh end, Heinrich Klassen also hit 12 runs off six balls and SRH scored 228 runs for four wickets in 20 overs. For KKR, Andre Russell took three wickets while Varun Chakravarthy picked up one wicket.

In reply, Narayan Jagadeesan and Rahmanullah Gurbaz came out for opening the innings. But, Gurbaz failed for getting out after a three-ball duck. Venkatesh Iyer scored 10 runs and Sunil Narine scored a duck. Jagadeesan got out after scoring 36 runs off 21 balls as he put up a partnership with Rana. Then, Nitish Rana smashed 75 runs off 41 balls, including five fours and six sixes. Rinku Singh continued his dream run with the bat as he smashed fifty off 27 balls. Finally, he remained not out on 58* runs off 31 balls, including four fours and four sixes. But, in the end, KKR lost the match by 23 runs.
