The auction of the Women’s T20 League took place at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on 13 February 2023. All eyes were on the auction as over 400 players participated in the auction process. Indian fans were eager to see how their cricketers like Renuka Singh Thakur manage to bag a wholesome amount for the tournament.

Renuka has been a great addition to team India in recent years. She has been a prolific bowler, especially based on her performance in the Commonwealth Games in England. Her base price was INR 50 Lakh. A bidding war was expected between franchises for the services of the star Indian bowler.

However, the Delhi franchise started the bidding while the Bangalore franchise came into play. Finally, the Bangalore franchise managed to buy Renuka Singh Thakur for a whopping amount of INR 1.5 Crores for the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 League. Renuka Singh made her T20I debut against Australia in October 2021 and made her ODI debut against New Zealand in February 2022. However, as of now, she has played seven ODIs. Renuka Singh has taken 18 wickets in those matches at an economy of 4.62. On the other hand, she has played 28 T20Is where Renuka has taken 24 wickets.

Renuka Singh defeated Australia's Darcie Brown, England's Alice Capsey, and her teammate Yastika Bhatia to win the Emerging Women's Cricketer of the Year 2022. In 2022, Renuka Singh took 40 wickets in 29 matches for India across all two formats. The Governing Body of Cricket have also acknowledged her performance so far in the international arena. Her performance in the Commonwealth Games and Women’s Asia Cup was the talk of the town. In the Commonwealth Games, Renuka Singh took 11 wickets in five matches, at an economy of 5.47.  She was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament. In the Women’s Asia Cup, she took six wickets in six matches, at an economy of 4.94.
