The big day is here as the final of the World Test Championship is all set to get underway today. However, the weather is not very promising and rain is expected to play spoilsport throughout the match. It has been pelting down in Southampton for the last couple of days and there are high chances that we won’t be able to get a full quota of 90 overs on Day 1.

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen took to Twitter and gave an update about the current weather in Southampton. "World Test Championship to start in UK today & it’s hammering it down!," he wrote on Twitter along with several emojis of cloud and rain,” tweeted Pietersen.

While the weather looks gloomy, the cricket fans around the world would be hoping that England’s unpredictable weather comes into play and the clouds disappear miraculously. Southampton has a good drainage system and if the rain stops, the play could start in no time.

Meanwhile, the overcast conditions will give a slight advantage to New Zealand as they are used to playing in similar conditions back home. However, with quality bowlers up their ranks, India too won’t mind the overcast condition.

The Virat Kohli led side have named their playing XI and have included both Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. They have also opted for the experience of Ishant Sharma over the pace and form of Mohammad Siraj. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will open the innings.

India’s playing XI: Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami
