On 22 March 2023, Team India lost the three-match ODI series against Australia by 2-1. However, they won the Test series against them by 2-1. India won the first two matches convincingly, thanks to top performances from several players like Ravichandran Ashwin. But, in the last two matches, India lost one and drew one game.

However, the main difference was the captaincy of Australia. In the first two matches, Pat Cummins was the skipper. Then, in the last two matches, Steve Smith was the skipper. He impressed everyone with his productive captaincy skills and abilities. His activeness as the skipper of the team was instrumental to the team’s success.

Here is the shared tweet:

“He knows when to do what and he gets the hang of the game.” – Ravichandran Ashwin on Steve Smith

However, Pat Cummins went back to Australia for some family reasons after two matches. After that, he did not come back even for the three-match ODI series. So, Steve Smith got the opportunity again and led his team to a 2-1 series victory over the Men in Blue. Australia lost the series opener but thrashed Rohit Sharma and his men in the last two matches. So, fans were in awe of Smith’s captaincy in those games. Ravichandran Ashwin was not an exception also as he came up with praise for the Aussie skipper.

On Twitter, he wrote: “Steve Smith and captaincy is a match made in heaven #INDvAUS”. The veteran spinner pointed out that Smith is made for the captaincy. But, seeing that tweet, fans were not happy and they started to troll the spinner on the social media platform. However, it was not the first time when Ashwin praised Smith for his captaincy. After the BGT series, Ashwin said: “Steven Smith led the Australians in an outstanding manner under such circumstances. He is very creative and gets the game. He gets the game. He knows when to do what and he gets the hang of the game. He lead them really well in the last two Tests, be it field placement or bowling changes, he was spot on. He never let us take control in the Indore Test.”

Here is how fans have reacted to Ashwin’s tweet while praising Smith for his captaincy:
