Australia are having a tough time in India as they have lost the first two matches of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India. In both matches, the visitors looked absolutely clueless while facing the Indian spinners. Now, they will be in action again on 1 March in Indore for the third Test. After the Delhi, the Aussie captain Pat Cummins returned back home.

Regarding that, Cricket Australia also issued an official statement. “Cummins has flown home for personal reasons due to a serious family illness. He will return to India later this week to re-join preparations for the third Test in Indore. We ask media to respect his privacy,” the statement reads.

“That’s what can happen in those situations when your premier fast bowler is your captain,” – Allan Border on Pat Cummins

Speaking about Pat Cummins’ performance so far in this ongoing series, he has taken only three wickets and managed to score 40 runs. However, his captaincy abilities have been heavily criticized by fans after synch two brutal losses. Cummins has been criticized over the final playing XI that Australia considered for the two-Test. Now, reports have come out that Steve Smith might do the captaincy duty in the third Test if Cummins fails to return. After such a report, fans have reacted and shared their views on the social media platform.

While speaking on the captaincy of Pat Cummins, Allan Border said: “There were opportunities when things were starting to go stray, particularly in the Indian first innings when we had them on the ropes and they formed a good partnership, a couple of blasts from him running in and bowling some short stuff for two or three overs. There are other guys out on the field I suppose who could go to the captain and say, ‘mate, why don’t you have a bowl’?”

“But I just thought this is Pat’s first real test as a captain, the rest has been plain sailing, you go to the sub-continent, and all of a sudden you get tested out in all sorts of areas. He’s worried about lots of different things, he forgot about himself bowling I think. That’s what can happen in those situations when your premier fast bowler is your captain,” Border added.
