‘Itna Sach nahi bolna tha Ash Anna’ - Fans react as Ravichandran Ashwin gets fined 25% of match fees for breaching IPL Code Of Conduct post CSK clash

On 12 April 2023, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locked horns with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing IPL. However, the match did not disappoint fans at Chepauk as it was a nail-biting finish. CSK fell short by just three runs against RR. Ravichandran Ashwin won the Player of the Match award for his all-round performance.

With the bat, he scored 30 runs off 22 balls. While with the ball, Ashwin picked up two wickets. But, after the match, during the post-match press conference, Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his displeasure with the umpire’s decisions during the game. Regarding that, Ravichandran Ashwin has been fined 25% of match fees.

“You can do whatever you want but you need to be standard" - Ravichandran Ashwin

Due to such an action, Ravichandran Ashwin breached the IPL Code Of Conduct by publicly commenting on the match officials/players. During the press conference, Ashwin said: "I'm quite surprised the umpires changed the ball for dew on their own. It's never happened before and I'm quite surprised. Some of the decisions in this year's IPL on the field have left me a little flummoxed, to be honest.”

“It left me flummoxed in a good or bad way because what you need is a little bit of balance. We're going as a bowling team and we're not asking for the ball to be changed. But the ball was changed on the umpire's accord. What reason - I did ask the umpire but he said we can change it. So I hope every time there's dew they can change it - every single time going forward in this IPL. You can do whatever you want but you need to be standard," Ravichandran Ashwin further added. Umpires changed the ball during the 12th over of CSK’s innings when they were at 92 runs for three wickets while chasing 176 runs. Ashwin picked up the wicket of Shivam Dube on that same over.
