On 1 March 2023, team India took on Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the third Test in Indore. India managed to win the first two matches comfortably and were looking to continue their dominance in this clash also. However, from the Delhi Test, umpire Nitin Menon made headlines as he got involved in a controversial dismissal of Virat Kohli.

The incident took place during India’s first innings in Delhi. Virat Kohli was batting on 44 runs when he got trapped in an LBW. Umpire Nitin Menon gave him out and Kohli went for a review. During the replay, it was seen that the ball might have hit both the pad and bat at the same time. But, the third umpire, Richard Illingworth did not overturn the decision and thus, Kohli got out.

India experienced a batting collapse against the Aussies in the first innings of the Indore Test

So, fans were not happy with such a decision from Menon in such a crucial situation of the match. However, he was again one of the on-field umpires who took the field in the third Test in Indore. But, he disappointed once again as Menon came up with some howlers in the first session only. In the first over of the day, he gave to wrong decisions over Rohit Sharma. On the first delivery, it was a clear nick from Rohit’s bat. But, he did not give him out and Australia did not go for a review. Then, on the fourth delivery of that over, it was another appeal from the Aussies for a caught behind. But, Menon denied it again.

But replays showed that the ball hit the back leg on its way and it was a plumb LBW. Then, he made another mistake when he gave Ravindra Jadeja out against an LBW appeal. But, Jadeja took the review and the decision got overturned as there was a clear inside edge. After that, Menon made another mistake when he did not give out Srikar Bharat. But, Australia went for a review and it confirmed that the ball would’ve hit the middle and leg stumps. So, it was quite an eventful session for Nitin Menon. Hence, fans came up and shared their views on the social media platform to troll the umpire.
