The Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) is all set to make a comeback from 15 June 2023. The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MSA) will organise the tournament as matches will take place at the MCA International Stadium on the outskirts. However, it got inaugurated in 2009. After three editions, it got stalled and now, it is all set to make a comeback.

The player auction is going to be held on 6 June. Before that, the names of Icon players came out for every six teams. Among them, Kedar Jadhav became the icon player of the Kolhapur franchise and seeing that fans came up with some funny tweets. Other top Maharashtra players will be in action also.

Kedar Jadhav recently was a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the concluded IPL season. But, he got very limited chances to showcase his talents. Speaking of the tournament, the President of the MCA, Mr. Rohit Pawar said: “We had kept a base price of Rs 1 crore per year for three years for the six teams expecting a minimum value of Rs 18 crore for the MPL. But we in turn received a record franchise fees of whopping Rs 57.80 crore for six teams for three years after the teams were auctioned today”.

“We followed a completely transparent process to buy the ownership through open bid system. We are committed to making the League profitable for all the Team Owners. The money collected at the Auction will be used for the betterment of cricket in Maharashtra. The MCA will strive for the upliftment of the sport of cricket in Maharashtra, giving an opportunity to young and upcoming talent showcase their skill at such a great platform,” Pawar added.  He also confirmed that MPL will be broadcast live on DD Sports and an OTT platform, to be decided later.
