On 12 April 2023, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locked horns with Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing IPL. Both teams won two out of their first three games in the tournament. So, a fantastic battle was waiting for fans as MS Dhoni and his men were looking for another win in front of the home crowd.

Speaking of the match, MS Dhoni won the toss and asked RR to bat first. However, RR dealt with a blow as Trent Boult missed the clash due to a niggle. On the other hand, CSK handed a debut cap to Akash Singh. For Rajasthan Royals, Jos Buttler, and Yashasvi Jaiswal came out to open the innings.

But, Jaiswal got out on 10 runs off eight balls, including two fours. After that, Devdutt Padikkal put up a partnership of 77 runs for the second wicket with Buttler. Finally, Padikkal got out on 38 runs off 26 balls. However, Sanju Samson scored another duck. Then, Ashwin scored 30 runs and Hetmyer also scored 30* runs off 18 balls. Buttler scored 52 runs off 36 balls, including one four and three fours. Finally, RR scored 175 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. For CSK, Ravindra Jadeja, Akash Singh, and Tushar Deshpande took two wickets each.

Along with them, Moeen Ali grabbed one wicket in his two overs. In reply, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway came out to open the innings. But, Gaikwad failed cheaply for eight runs off 10 balls. Then, Conway scored 50 runs off 38 balls and Ajinkya Rahane scored 31 runs off 19 balls. Apart from them, other batters failed miserably as CSK were struggling at 117 runs for six wickets in 16 overs. Both Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni were batting as they needed  59 runs off 24 balls. But, their effort fell short by three runs as CSK scored 172 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. For RR, both Ashwin and Chahal took two wickets each while Adam Zampa and Sandeep Sharma grabbed one wicket each.
