Hanuma Vihari is currently busy playing in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season for Andhra Pradesh. However, in recent times, he has failed to get a place in the team India squad in the longest format of the game. Even, in the upcoming home Test series against Australia, he is not a part of the squad.
Speaking of his career, he has played 16 Tests so far. He has scored 839 runs in 28 innings, at an average of 33.53. Hanuma Vihari has also bagged one century and five centuries. On 31 January 2023, Andhra locked horns with Madhya Pradesh in one of the four quarter-finals. Speaking of the match, Madhya Pradesh won the toss and asked Andhra to bat first.
Hanuma Vihari showed a lot of courage to bat as a left-hander despite having a broken wrist
While batting first, Andhra got bundled out for 379 runs in 127.1 overs. Ricky Bhui scored 149 runs off 250 balls, including 18 fours and one six. While Karan Shinde scored 110 runs off 264 balls, including 12 fours and two sixes. Skipper Hanuma Vihari scored 27 runs off 57 balls, including five boundaries. But, an incident took place during that inning that left fans surprised. One delivery from Avesh Khan hit him on his left wrist and it got fractured. But, Vihari showed great courage and commitment as he batted as a left-handed batter despite being a right-handed batter. For Madhya Pradesh, Anubhav Agarwal took four wickets for 72 runs in 22 overs.
In reply, Madhya Pradesh scored only 228 runs in 69.1 overs. Shubham Sharma was the highest scorer with 51 runs off 88 balls. For Andhra, Prithvi Raj took five wickets for 26 runs in 14.1 overs. Then, Andhra got a lead of 151 runs but got bundled out for just 93 runs in 32.3 overs. No one was expecting to see the skipper Hanuma Vihari batting in that innings. But, he showed up again as the last batter and scored valuable 15 runs off 16 balls, including three fours as a left-handed batter. During that knock, he came up with a one-handed reverse sweep that went for four runs and fans went crazy after seeing such a shot. Thus, Madhya Pradesh got a target of 245 runs to win the clash.
