The Ashes 2023 is all set to begging on 16 June to 31 July as both Australia and England will lock horns against each other to earn that prestigious trophy. However, ahead of this series, England are yet to announce the squad. But, on 16 May, the England Cricket Board shared an update on the availability of Jofra Archer.

They announced the squad for the first Test against Ireland. Archer missed the list while many players like Jonny Bairstow, Mark Wood, and Chris Woakes returned to the squad. Archer recently was a part of Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing IPL. He played only five games while taking two wickets, at an economy of 9.5.

“It has been a frustrating and upsetting period for Jofra Archer.” - Rob Key

In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, he was expected to lead the pace unit of MI. But, due to an injury, he returned back to England. The England Cricket Board (ECB) issued a statement that reads: "Archer has been recovering from right elbow surgery. However, pushing through the discomfort whilst recently playing, hoping it will settle, has proven challenging. Therefore, it has been agreed for him to return to the UK for a period of rest and rehabilitation to give him the best opportunity for a full recovery." MI also confirmed that and took Chris Jordan as his replacement.

Now, ECB have announced that Archer is set to miss the whole summer for England. ECB Managing Director for England Men's Cricket, Rob Key, said: “It has been a frustrating and upsetting period for Jofra Archer. He was making good progress until a recurrence of the elbow injury, which kept him out for an extended period previously. We wish him the best of luck with his recovery. I’m sure we will see Jofra back to his best and winning games for England, whatever the format. Hopefully, sooner rather than later.” The star pacer will now go in for rehabilitation with the England and Sussex medical teams to work on his injury management.
