After Ravi Shastri's successful tenure as India's head coach, Rahul Dravid replaced him. Thus, there were a lot of expectations from the former Indian veteran. However, he is yet to live up to the expectations as of now. Despite winning the home series against New Zealand, India went on to lose both, the Test series, as well as the ODI series against South Africa in the rainbow nation.

While speaking on the sidelines of the Legends League Cricket T20 tournament, Shoaib Akhtar spoke about the high expectations people have from Dravid. Akhtar feels Dravid has a lot to prove after a miserable South Africa tour. He feared that people may see him as an overrated coach if India doesn't perform well in the coming series. However, Akhtar believes that a poor series does not mean that Indian cricket is going downhill.

"No, Indian cricket is not going down. You have to take control of the situation. Rahul Dravid has a big job in his hands. I hope people don't say that he's an overrated coach. He has to prove that, and obviously he has big shoes to fill in the place of Ravi Shastri. He has a big task ahead, let's see how he performs," said Shoaib Akhtar as quoted by Sports NDTV.

He also spoke about Virat Kohli's decision to step down as India's T20I captain. The "Rawalpindi Express" said that he wasn't surprised by the decision as he saw that coming. Akhtar said there are lobbies against Kohli which forced him to step down as captain.

"I knew that was coming. I was in Dubai during that time and I knew every bit of it. I knew the whole scenario and what was happening in the Indian dressing room from my friends in India. There were people against him. So I wasn't surprised at his decision to quit. It's not an easy job," he added.
