Delhi Capitals (DC) have made a poor start to the ongoing IPL. They are still winless after four games. As Rishabh Pant got ruled out of the tournament, David Warner got appointed as the skipper for DC. But, his captaincy has raised questions among fans after the team’s performance so far in all four games.

Here are three reasons why David Warner can lose his captaincy in DC during IPL 2023:

Wrong decisions and poor field placements

David Warner has been criticised heavily over the four games due to his decisions. He was seen making poor field replacements and taking wrong decisions in crunch situations. Recently, against Mumbai Indians (MI), people were not happy with the DC skipper when he gave Mukesh Kumar to bowl instead of Anrich Nortje in the crunch situation.

Nortje bowled the last over when MI needed five runs only. Still, the Protea pacer did a fantastic job as MI won the match on the last ball. So, due to the lack of better decisions, Warner can lose his captaincy midway through the ongoing IPL season. Even, in some matches, his decision to bowl first seemed working against the team.

Affecting Warner the batter

David Warner has scored 208 runs so far in this ongoing IPL season. But, in four matches, his strike rate has been an issue. During this season, he became the first overseas batter to score 6000-plus runs in the history of this competition. In his overall IPL career, Warner has batted at a strike rate of 139.61.

But, this year, he has batted at a strike rate of 114.84. The Aussie batter also looked with much less intent. As a result, despite scoring runs at an average of 52.25, DC have failed to get a good and solid start to any games. Hence, if he loses his captaincy, then he might play with more freedom as a normal batter.

Proper utilisation of more suitable players

Another thing that DC can do is the proper utilisation of other players. If David Warner loses the captaincy, then the team can use other players like Mitchell Marsh (currently unavailable), Lungi Ngidi, or Phil Salt in the lineup. The Aussie batter is a foreign option.

Hence, if he misses out, then a proper slot can be filled. Phil Salt has been a terrific T20 player for England in recent matches. Therefore, he can be a perfect replacement at the top along with Prithvi Shaw.
