Despite showing a lot of promise, they failed to seize the big moments. So what exactly went wrong for them? What were the mistakes they made in their opening game of this edition? Today, we shall be taking a look at three reasons why Lucknow lost.

1) Batting collapse:

Early wickets always puts the batting team under a lot of pressure. Moreover, batters tend to avoid taking risks during a batting collapse. This was seen on Tuesday as Lucknow lost four wickets in the first six overs.

Losing so many wickets in the powerplay overs meant that the other batters had to play the rescue act, and couldn't play aggressively. None of their top-order batters took the responsibility to anchor the innings. Thus, they struggled to put a decent total on the board.

2) Poor captaincy:

KL Rahul's captaincy was ordinary, to say the least. A lot of his decisions were baffling. First things first, he didn't even compete Dushmantha Chameera's full quota of four overs.

He left his main bowlers for the last few overs when the game was tilting towards Gujarat's side. These defensive tactics cost Lucknow the game.

3) Ravi Bishnoi's final over:

Although Ravi Bishnoi is one of the most talented Indian players. His final over turned out to be the difference between the two sides. In the 16th over of the second innings, he was hit for 17 runs.

He was too scared to experiment and kept bowling the same length. Rahul Tewatia took advantage of the same, and took him to the cleaners. This also spoilt Bishnoi's figures as he then went for 34 runs in his full quota of four overs.
