Like the double header on Sunday, the game between the two new teams turned out to be a high-scoring encounter. It was Gujarat who ended up winning their first-ever match in the Indian T20 league. They looked dominant right from ball one. As for Lucknow, they too were good in patches, but failed to seize the big moments.

Contrary to the predictions, it was Lucknow's lower middle-order that scored the runs. While all were expecting the likes of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock to score big, it was Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni who played the rescue act. Lucknow lost four wickets in the powerplay overs and all seemed lost until this duo put on a sensational partnership. In the process, both got to their respective half-centuries as well. Lucknow ended up scoring 158-6. As for Gujarat's bowling, it was Mohammed Shami who took three wickets, and was absolutely sensational.
During the second innings, Gujarat lost two quick wickets as Dushmantha Chameera picked both the wickets in the powerplay overs. Matthew Wade joined forces with his skipper Hardik Pandya as the two put together a 57-run partnership. Just when things seemed to be drifting towards Gujarat's favour. Lucknow's spinners got their side back to the game with some superb bowling.
It was Krunal Pandya's spell that saw them put pressure on Gujarat. However, David Miller and Rahul Tewatia started to accelerate the innings after settling as the duo hit some humongous shots. While Killer Miller scored a quick 30, the all-rounder did what he usually does, and stunned one and all.
He scored an unbeaten 40 off just 27 balls and ensured that his side ends up winning the game. He was well supported by the debutant Abhinav Manohar who scored two boundaries in the final over and showed everyone why he's rated so highly by the experts. Gujarat ended up winning the game by five wickets as they chased the total with two balls to spare.
