In what can be called major news, Mark Wood is all set to miss the 15th edition of the Indian T20 league. He had suffered an elbow injury during the ongoing three-match Test series against the West Indies. This is disheartening for all the Lucknow fans as he was supposed to lead their pace attack.
According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Wood has been ruled out of bowling for the moment. It is to be noted that he suffered this right elbow injury during the first Test against the Windies. The report further states that the Lucknow-based franchise has already received a medical update for the same.
Although Wood has played just one game in the Indian T20 league, he was expected to wreak havoc this time around. The KL Rahul-led side had acquired his services for a whopping amount of INR 7.5 crore. The fans were excited to see the pacer return to the biggest T20 league in the world. Many experts spoke about the prospect of watching him bowl alongside Avesh Khan.
There were doubts over his participation the moment he got injured during the Test in North Sound last week. He was able to bowl just the 17 overs in the drawn Test. As far as Lucknow are concerned, they are yet to announce his replacement.
While there are some good options, Wood's absence will certainly be felt. The English pacer can not only bowl well with the new ball but can also be effective in death overs. His USP is to generate the extra pace. Besides, his current form has been superb as well.
As far as his T20I career is concerned, Wood has picked 26 wickets in 19 games so far. His bowling average and strike rate are 24.08 and 16.5 respectively. He has an economy rate of 8.76, which is decent considering the fact that he mostly bowls the tough overs.
