Mumbai are unarguably one of the best teams in the history of the Indian T20 league. As a matter of fact, no team has won more titles than them (five). Over the years, they have been an absolutely formidable unit.
However, nothing in this world is impossible. Hence, there are a few teams that can prove to be a threat to the five-time champions. Here are four teams that can give a tough fight to Mumbai.
1) Chennai
Although Mumbai have beaten Chennai often, things might just be different this time around. Owing to the history between the two teams, their arch-rival would certainly be at their best while facing them. Besides, both the times they faced each other in the previous edition, both games turned out to be thrillers.
Their last few encounters have been really close. It is to be noted that Chennai have strengthened their batting department and their bowling looks fairly decent as well.
2) Punjab
Punjab have one of the strongest teams on paper. Their batting consists of several hitters. In fact, many players in the Mayank Agarwal-led side can win single-handedly matches.
The last few games between the two sides have been really close. It will be exciting to see Kagiso Rabada bowl to Kieron Pollard and Tim David at the death. A thrilling contest is expected between Jasprit Bumrah and Punjab's top-order as well.
3) Lucknow
Although Lucknow are making their Indian T20 league debut this season, they are expected to have a superb season as Quinton de Kock would definitely have some unfinished business with his previous team. Besides, KL Rahul has a superb record against the Rohit Sharma-led side.
An important point to be noted is that Lucknow bat deep, and a lot of their all-rounders can whack the ball. Moreover, they have some express pacers, who could trouble the Mumbai batters.
4) Delhi
Delhi were superb during the mega auction. Not only do they have top-class bowlers, but they also have some clean strikers of the ball. With players like David Warner and Rishabh Pant, no target is safe.
As far as their pacers are concerned, the Pant-led side have Anrich Nortje, who can trouble the batters with his extra pacers. Delhi also have a good death bowler in the form of Mustafizur Rahman. Last but not the least, Delhi beat Mumbai twice during the 2021 edition.
