The veteran has been in the field for over 45 years and has been struggling with health issues of late. The South Australia-based commentator told to Sunday Morning Herald that the time has come for him to walk away from the mics. Enriching words, fluency and great knowledge of the game made him stand out.

He said that he has been contemplating the decision for a while and the time has finally arrived. Chappell revealed that he had a stroke a few years back and was lucky enough to get away with it. The cricketer-turned-commentator added that it will get worse for him to continue because of the cons that come with commentating.

"I remember the day when I knew I'd had enough of playing cricket," he said. "I looked at the clock and it was five past 11 on a day of play and I thought, 'S**t, if you're clock-watching at that time, I have to go'. So when it comes to commentary, I've been thinking about it. I had a minor stroke a few years back and I got off lucky," Chappell said to Sunday Morning Herald.

"But it just makes everything harder. And I just thought with all the travel and, you know, walking upstairs and things like that, it's all just going to get harder," he added. The former cricketer said that he remembered the words of Ray Warren, the famous Rugby commentator while considering the decision.

Ian Chappell added that he does not worry about what people think of him. He added that he has had equal shares of appreciation and criticism.
