Before the start of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, there have been various transfers that have been already made. According to a recent report Hardik Pandya may return to his former IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians (MI), ahead of IPL 2024. The speculation revolves around a potential direct swap involving Pandya, Rohit Sharma, or Jofra Archer. If the trade materializes, Pandya could lead Mumbai, while Rohit might captain Gujarat. Alternatively, if Archer moves to Gujarat, Rohit would continue to lead MI. The surprising report hints at Pandya possibly taking over as captain in 2025. Rohit Sharma has been a key figure for MI since joining in 2011, leading the team since 2013 and securing multiple IPL titles.

Under Rohit Sharma's leadership, Mumbai Indians (MI) achieved IPL success in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. Hardik Pandya, who joined MI in 2015, played a pivotal role in four IPL title victories before being released ahead of the IPL 2022 mega-auction. In the 2022 season, Pandya captained the Gujarat Titans (GT), a new team, leading them to a title win in their inaugural season. Despite reaching the IPL 2023 final, GT lost to Chennai Super Kings. The potential trade scenario could see Rohit and Pandya playing together if Jofra Archer is traded to GT. Pandya served as Rohit's deputy in the 2023 World Cup and has captained India in the majority of T20Is post the 2022 WC.

In addition to it, the star India opener Prithvi Shaw's future with the franchise remains uncertain. Sarfaraz, despite being a domestic stalwart, struggled in the IPL, managing just 53 runs in four games last season, while Pandey had a subpar IPL 2023, scoring 160 runs from ten matches. The report suggests that CSK might trade Pandey for the upcoming season.
