Mumbai Indians had a poor start to the tournament. They lost their first two matches and the performance of the bowlers was not up to the mark. After the loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their season opener, MI skipper Rohit Sharma opened up about the unavailability of Bumrah. He said: "For the past six to eight months, I am used to playing without Jasprit Bumrah . Of course, this is a different set-up. Someone needs to put their hand up and come in to fill that place.”

“We can't keep dwelling on it. You can try and control the things that are in your control and those that are not in your control, you can't do that. Injuries are not in your control. The other guys that we have are talented. It's just that they haven't played a lot of IPL. We need to give them the support," Rohit concluded. Jasprit Bumrah last played for Team India on 25 September 2022. Last year, he even missed both the 20-20 World Cup in Australia and the Asia Cup in UAE. In his IPL career so far, Bumrah has taken 145 wickets in 120 matches, at an economy of 7.39.
