Playing for India is the byproduct: Gautam Gambhir
In the meanwhile, Gambhir recently went on to speak about how he wants players playing for Lucknow to think about the franchise, and not about playing for India. While speaking to 'Backstage with Boria', he stated that players should not think about how playing in the league gives a platform to play for the country. However, he did mention the fact that playing well in the Indian T20 league eventually ensure that the individual toes on to play for India.
“If you think of playing for India and you start saying that Lucknow gives me that platform to play for India, then you are being dishonest to the franchise. But if you were to play for Lucknow and deliver it for Lucknow, eventually you will end up playing for India,” said Gautam Gambhir.
"When I’ve captained, I have always said I don’t want players thinking of playing for India. I want players thinking of playing for the franchise. Playing for India is just the byproduct," he added. It is to be noted that so far, the Lucknow-based franchise have signed KL Rahul (who will also be leading the team), Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi.
