Indian T20 League: Lucknow team named as 'Lucknow Super Giants'

The 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League is all set to expand, with the addition of two new teams - Lucknow and Ahmedabad. While the new teams have picked the three players they were allowed to pick outside the auction, their team names were yet to be announced. However, the BCCI had asked the franchises to reveal the name by January 30

With a week before the deadline, the franchise has revealed the team name. The Lucknow team will be called 'Lucknow Super Giants'. Earlier, the franchise ran a campaign on social Media 'Naam Banao, Naam Kamao and asked the fans for their suggestions. The name was taken after considering the suggestions of the fans. "We conducted a poll to decide the name of the franchise, we received an overwhelming response and the most popular name came out was Lucknow Supergiants".

Earlier, the franchise had picked KL Rahul as their skipper. They had also roped in Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi. The coach9ng staff comprises Andy Flower as head coach and Gautam Gambhir as team mentor. Vijay Dahiya will give his services as assistant coach. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants have a purse of 59.8 crore going into the mega auction. They will eye to rope in some big names and build a strong team for the tournament.

Meanwhile, the mega auction is set to be held in Bengaluru on February 12th and 13th. However, there are doubts if the Indian T20 League will be staged in India. Due to the COVID-19 situation in India, BCCI is mulling over moving the tournament to South Africa. However, the franchises want the tournament to be played in India. A final decision will be taken after the auction but if the tournament is played in India, it's almost certain that it will be entirely held in Maharashtra to limit the travel of teams.
