On 14 April 2023, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) locked horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing IPL. However, KKR failed to win the game as SRH defeat them by 23 runs. Harry Brook won the Player of the Match award as he smashed the first century of this edition. He scored 100* runs off 55 balls, including 12 fours and three sixes.

SRH made headlines at the IPL 2023 auction when they bought the England star batter for INR 13.25 Cr. But, in the first three matches, he failed to live up to his expectations. Finally, Harry Brook lit up Eden Gardens with his power-hitting abilities. But, during the post-match presentation, Brook came up with some controversial comments while taking a dig at Indian fans who were criticising him a lot in the last few days.

“I just went out there with an 'I don't care' mentality tonight and thankfully it came off.” - Harry Brook

During the post-match presentation, Harry Brook said: "I was putting pressure on myself a little bit after the first few games. You go on social media and people are calling you rubbish. You start to doubt yourself a little bit. I just went out there with an 'I don't care' mentality tonight and thankfully it came off. There are a lot of Indian fans out there who'll say 'well done' tonight. But they were slagging me off a few days ago. Glad I could shut them up, to be honest".

"It was a special night. Thankfully we got over the line as well. Got a little tense in the middle. A lot of people say that opening the batting in T20 is the best time to bat. I'm happy to bat anywhere. I've had a lot of success batting at five. Made my name there. My four Test hundreds will have to be over this one. The crowd was phenomenal tonight. I enjoyed it. Great to be playing in such a great stadium in front of so many fans," Harry Brook concluded. Hearing such comments, fans were not happy and they termed the England batter arrogant on social media.
