To add more, the franchise have two overseas slots left and it remains to be seen if they could rope in England allrounder Sam Curran, who was earlier a part of the team. Eventually, the left-arm pacer is in stupendous form and might as well get to represent Chennai in the next edition.

As things stand, let us take a look at four foreigners whom Chennai might target in the mini-auction ahead of the Indian T20 League 2023 edition:

The allrounder from England was earlier a part of the Chennai franchise and given that the player is already familiar with the squad and the team setup, the Chennai franchise might go all out for the allrounder.

Further, the left-arm pacer is in stupendous form and the T20 format is all about the allrounders, adding to the fact that it is highly likely that Curran might end up playing for the Dhoni-led team in the 2023 edition.

2) Kane Williamson

The New Zealand cricketer was released from the Hyderabad franchise and much to the stupefaction of the cricket fans, Williamson was the captain of the franchisee in the previous edition of the mighty league.

With the Chennai franchise looking for the perfect replacement for captain post-MS Dhoni’s retirement, Williamson might come in handy for the team. Further, the Black Caps player could handle pressure well and given that Chennai are known for taking games deep, he can be a perfect fit for the squad.

3) Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran, the left-handed batter from West Indies, was released ahead of the mini-auction and it remains to be seen if Hyderabad would buy him back in the auction for a lesser price, although it looks highly unlikely.

The Caribbean batter could take the game away from the opponents single-handedly on his given day and if at all Chennai manage to get him in the squad, he could be given the responsibility to lead the team as well.

4) Joe Root

After a brief time, Joe Root registered himself for the mini-auction and it remains to be seen if he would end up playing in any of the franchises, given that the longest format of the game is the English star’s forte.

However, Chennai are in a hunt to get their captaincy sorted and Root might come in handy in crunch situations. Further, the batter is capable of playing a quickfire innings and might as well end up in the Chennai camp next year.
