T20 cricket is the most entertaining and exciting format of the game. The entertainment factor comes from the risk the batter is ready to take in this format. This results in batters playing some very fast-paced knocks with unimaginably high strike-rates.
The Indian T20 League is the most entertaining and exhilarating of the T20 leagues in the world. The league has presented its fans with some blistering and entertaining knocks. But sometimes, the bowlers have gained the upper hand over the batter, resulting in some of the slowest knocks in the Indian T20 League history.
5. Robin Uthappa: Robin Uthappa has played some memorable knocks in the Indian T20 League. His best years were when he played for Kolkata and played an important role in their batting efforts. But in 2019, Uthappa, while appearing for Rajasthan, played the 5th slowest innings in the history of the tournament. While batting at second down, Uthappa scored 9 runs off 20 deliveries while his team was chasing 214 runs. His strike rate in the knock was just 45, not at all up to the T20 standards.
4. Chris Gayle: The best T20 batter, in the opinion of many, appearing in the list of slowest innings is a surprise. Gayle achieved this embarrassing feat in a match against Mumbai. Gayle was bottled up in the innings by Lasith Malinga and Harbhajan Singh during a match in 2015 Indian T20 League. In a very uncomfortable stay of 42 minutes at the crease, he was just able to score 10 runs off 24 deliveries. The strike rate for Gayle in the innings was just 41.66.
3. Manvinder Bisla: The hero for Kolkata in 2012 final played the third slowest innings in the history of the Indian T20 League. In a match against Rajasthan in 2011, Kolkata was chasing a target of 81 runs. After Jacques Kallis was dismissed on the second ball of the innings, Bisla came out to bat and scored just 9 runs from 22 deliveries. His strike rate in the knock was just 40.99.
2. MS Dhoni: In 2016, Dhoni played one of the slowest knocks in the history of the tournament. He was nearing the end of his peak but was not so out of touch as to appear in the list of slowest knocks in the Indian T20 league history. In a match against Kolkata at the Eden Gardens, Dhoni just managed to score 8 runs from 22 balls. The spinners of Kolkata chocked Dhoni for runs, who batted at a strike rate of 36.36.
1. Yashpal Singh: Yashpal Singh was quite a famous name in domestic cricket. He was playing for Kolkata in the Indian T20 League 2009 when he came up with the slowest knock in the history of the tournament. Yashpal played out 20 balls in the knock for just 6 runs. This remains the slowest knock in the history of the Indian T20 league. KKR was chasing a modest total of 102 and a 48 run knock by Laxmi Ratan Shukla helped them win the game.
