Indian T20 League schedule revealed; Chennai, Kolkata to kick off 15th edition

The schedule for the Indian T20 League has been revealed. The tournament will get underway on March 26, with a game between defending champions Chennai and runners up of 2021 Kolkata at the Wankhede Stadium. Initially, the tournament was set to start on March 27 but was pushed a day earlier after the broadcaster requested for the same, The reason was to play a doubleheader on Sunday. Thus, March 27 will see two matches being played. In the first game, Delhi will take on Mumbai at Brabourne Stadium in the day game, while Punjab will take on Bangalore in the second game of the day at DY Patil stadium.

Two new entrants Gujarat and Lucknow will open their accounts on March 28 at Wankhede Stadium. As reported earlier, the league stage will be played in Maharashtra. 70 league matches will be played at four international venues in Mumbai and Pune. Each team will play four games each at Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium, and 3 matches each at Brabourne Stadium (CCI) and MCA International Stadium, Pune.

Earlier, the BCCI had divided the teams into two groups. Mumbai, Kolkata, Rajasthan, Delhi and Lucknow are kept in Group A, while Chennai Hyderabad, Gujarat, Punjab and Bangalore are placed in Group B.

Each team will play twice against the teams of their own group and the team in the same row of the other group. They will face the remaining four teams of other group only once. There are as many as 12 double headers in the league stage. The BCCI have also allowed 25 per cent crowd in the stadium. Meanwhile, the details for the playoffs are not out yet.
