The Indian T20 League, besides the top-level cricketing action, is also famous for its player recruitment process. The Indian T20 League sees a unique auction procedure each year, where the participating franchises recruit their choice of players for the upcoming season of the Indian T20 League.
Over the years, the league has seen many players being retained by their franchise for more than several seasons, while some players have donned different jerseys quite frequently in the different seasons. Here’s a look at five such players who have played for more than five franchises in the different seasons of the Indian T20 League.
1. Aaron Finch: The Australian player Aaron Finch has played 87 matches in the Indian T20 League, in which he scored 2005 runs at an average of 25.70 with a strike rate of 127.70.
In the case of Aaron Finch, these matches did not come for one franchise. He played for 8 different teams in the Indian T20 league. Finch was first a part of the Rajasthan team in 2010. After this, he went to play for Delhi, Pune, Hyderabad, Mumbai , Punjab, Gujarat and Bangalore. He was recently roped in as replacement for Kolkata as replacement for Alex Hales. This will be the ninth franchise Finch will play for.
2. Parthiv Patel: Parthiv Patel has featured for different Indian T20 League teams, playing a total of 139 Indian T20 League matches. In these 139 matches, he has scored 2848 runs at an average of 22.60, with a strike rate of 120.78.
Parthiv Patel has featured in the squads of Chennai, Kochi, Hyderabad (under both owners), Mumbai, and Bangalore. He is one of those few players to have won the trophy for two different franchises (Mumbai and Chennai).
3. Irfan Pathan: Irfan Pathan was the star of Indian bowling in the first World T20 final, which India won. After that, he was picked by Punjab in the Indian T20 League season of 2008. Later, he represented Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune and Gujarat. In the 103 Indian T20 League matches that Pathan played, he scored 1139 runs and picked up 80 wickets.
4. Dinesh Karthik: The man who always appears busy during his presence in the crease has some memorable T20 knocks to his name. The knock in the finals of the Nidahas Trophy against Bangladesh will always be etched in the memories of Indian cricket fans.
Karthik has featured for quite a few Indian T20 League teams. Karthik began his career for the Delhi franchise and then went to play for Punjab, Mumbai, Bangalore, Gujarat and Kolkata. For the 2022 season, he is having a return stint for Bangalore.
5. Robin Uthappa: Robin Uthappa’s performance for the Kolkata team has been memorable. He was an integral part of Kolkata’s title-winning efforts in 2012 and 2014. However, the veteran has also played for some other franchises. He began his Indian T20 League career with Mumbai. Later, his services were secured by Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata, Rajasthan and Chennai.
In the 193 Indian T20 League matches that Uthappa has played for different franchises, he scored 4722 runs at an average of 27.9 with a strike rate of 130.2. He has also played some important innings in the knockout games for Kolkata as well as Chennai.
