In what comes as big news, Aaron Finch has replaced Alex Hales in the Kolkata squad for the 15th edition of the Indian T20 league. This will be the ninth franchise the Aussie limited-overs skipper will play for in the biggest T20 league in the world. Earlier, Alex Hales had announced his decision to opt out of the 2022 edition. He cited bubble fatigue as the reason for his decision.

It is to be noted that Kolkata had acquired his services for INR 1.20 crore during the mega auction. Hales took to social media and announced that he won't be participating in the upcoming edition of the league.

Thus, Finch will return to the toughest 20 league in the upcoming season. He was last seen representing Bangalore in 2020. When it comes to his T20I record, he is arguably one of the best batters in the shortest format of the game.

Finch has scored 2686 runs in 88 T20Is and has scored two hundreds as well. As far as his record in the Indian T20 league goes, the opener has 2005 runs in 85 innings at an average of 25.38. This includes fourteen fifties as well.

Thus, the CEO of the Kolkata-based franchise Venky Mysore spoke about the same. He said that they were delighted to welcome Finch, who led Australia to their maiden 20-20 World Cup win. He also stated that they respect Alex Hales' decision to opt out.

"We respect Alex Hales' decision of choosing family and mental well-being over his participation in the upcoming season of the ITL. We will miss having him in the Galaxy of Knights this season, but we wish him all the best.

“We are delighted to welcome Aaron Finch, the T20 World Cup-winning captain, to the Kolkata family. He is excited about joining the rest of the Kolkata squad in Mumbai and we look forward to benefiting from his vast experience," said Venky Mysore in a statement posted by Kolkata's Twitter handle.
