Ex-Purple Cap winner set to replace Mark Wood in Lucknow? Franchise drop a hint

Mark Wood was set to be one of Lucknow's key players for the 15th edition of the Indian T20 league. However, he suffered an injury during the ongoing Test series against West Indies. Due to this, he was unfortunately ruled out of the cash-rich league, which came as a huge blow to the Lucknow-based franchise.

Since then, the Lucknow fans have been eagerly waiting for the announcement of Wood's replacement. There were a few speculations of it being Taskin Ahmed, but that didn't happen as Taskin was denied the NOC. In what can be called a major development, Lucknow are seemingly set to announce Andrew Tye as the English pacer's replacement.

Recent reports suggest that the Aussie pacer will be returning to the biggest T20 league in the world. Besides, the official Twitter account of Lucknow dropped a hint for the same. They took to Twitter to post a secret picture of a bowler that was going to join their side.

"Who will be the speedster filling Woody’s shoes? 👀" read the caption of the Tweet. Fans were quick to guess that it was none other than Tye. A passionate fan even showed the complete picture of the secret bowler and it seemed as if it was indeed the 35-year-old.

It is to be noted that Tye isn't new to the Indian T20 League. He won the Purple Cap in 2018 while playing for Punjab. After representing Gujarat and Punjab, he was then purchased by Rajasthan during the 2020 auction. His USP is his death bowling, as well as his variations.

As far as Tye's record in this league is concerned, he has picked 40 wickets in 21 games at an average of 21.8. This includes three four-fers and a fifer as well. However, Lucknow are yet to make an official announcement of him joining the side. If he does indeed end up joining the new team, it will be exciting to watch him play this league once again.
