England and India faced each other in the first of the three-match series at The Oval in London on July 12. The Men In Blue dominated the game right from the first ball. After winning the toss, the visitors elected to field first given the grass cover on the wicket. The Three Lions had no answer to quality bowling from the opposition.

Jasprit Bumrah started wreaking havoc with the new ball, and was breathing fire. He took out Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, and Joe Root. Mohammed Shami chimed and took the wicket of Ben Stokes to keep the pressure going. Liam Livingstone lost his stumps down the legside and the team was reeling at 26/5. Skipper Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali stitched a partnership of 27 runs and looked like taking the team to at least a fighting total.

However, a brilliant caught and bowled from Prasidh Krishna of Ali further dented the opposition. Buttler followed next and the team was tottering at 59/7. It looked like the team won't even the 100-run mark after Craig Overton lost his wicket to Shami and the score read 68/8. Brydon Carse and David Willey tried to get as much as possible with the latter taking his chances. However, Bumrah cleaned up Carse with a yorker to end those ambitions.

Soon after, the lead pacer of India took his sixth with the wicket of Willey to end the innings on 110. Shami took three wickets as well. In reply, skipper Rohit Sharma, who is looking for some form in the last months, scored an unbeaten 76 off just 58 balls including seven fours and five sixes. Shikhar Dhawan, who is playing his first competitive after the Indian T20 League 2022, scored an unbeaten 31 and spend some time at the crease.
