Bangalore held their nerves in the death overs and defended a 207-run total against a powerful Lucknow batting unit on Thursday at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. Faf du Plessis and Co. won the game by 14 runs and, thereby booked their place for the Qualifier 2 match.
Lucknow campaign's, on the other hand, is over as they have been knocked out of the competition. Lucknow kept their hopes alive till the 18h over, in pursuit of a 207-run total in the second innings.
They didn't make a great start as Lucknow had lost Quinton de Kock in the very first over of the innings. Manan Vohra (19 off 11) came in at number three and smacked two sixes and a four before getting out off Harshal Patel in the 5th over. KL Rahul then hit one four and two sixes in the 6th over to end the power play at 62 for 2.
Hasaranga then put the brakes on Lucknow as he delivered two sensational overs. At the end of 10 overs, Lucknow had managed to score 89 for the loss of 2 wickets. KL Rahul couldn’t score boundaries in the middle overs and completed his half-century off 43 balls.
Deepak Hooda, however, on the other end, tried to change the momentum with three sixes after the 13th over. However, Hasaranga had him bowled in the 15th over to turn the pressure back on Lucknow.
KL Rahul changed gears after Hooda got out as he smashed boundaries in short intervals. The game was evenly poised till the 17th over of the innings. Lucknow were 167 for 3 and needed 41 runs in the final 3 overs. Harshal Patel, once again, delivered in the death overs as he gave just 8 runs and also picked the wicket of Marcus Stoinis in the 18th over of the innings.
Hazlewood then produced a brilliant 19th over as he conceded 9 runs and picked two wickets,. including KL Rahul. Those two overs turned the game around for Bangalore as Lucknow fell 14 runs short in the end.
Earlier, Bangalore notched a huge score of 207 runs in the first innings. They didn’t make a great start to their innings as Faf du Plessis got out on the very first ball he faced. Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar added 66 runs for the second wicket but the former was struggling to get the timing right.
Kohli was trying too hard to fetch boundaries, and, eventually, got out after scoring 25 runs in 24 balls. In-form batter, Glenn Maxwell (9 off 10) and Mahipal Lomror (14 off 9) also failed to deliver but Rajat Paditar kept smashing boundaries all over the park.
Coming in at number three, Patidar remained at the crease right till the end and went on to play a sensational knock of 112 runs in 54 balls. After 13 overs, Bangalore were 115 for 4. Patidar joined hands with Dinesh Karthik and the duo put an exhibition of boundaries at the Eden Gardens Stadium.
Both played at fifth gear and took the team to beyond 200-run total. Rajat Patidar smashed his maiden century in just 49 balls. He remained unbeaten on 112 off 54 balls, while Dinesh Karthik scored 37 runs in 23 balls, including 5 fours and 1 six.

What a knock by Rajat Patidar! People expected Kohlis, Maxwells and du Plessis’ to make it big for #RCB in this eliminator but it was Patidar who did the job! #LSGvRCB

Is KL Rahul going to start goong ballistic anytime soon, or is he going to settle for the draw? There’s something seriously wrong with most established Indian batters’ approach #LSGvRCB #IPL2022
