Shoaib Akhtar was one of the fastest bowlers in the world during his playing days for Pakistan. Still, he holds the record for bowling the fastest ball at 161.3 kmph in the world. On the other hand, Umran Malik has become a new pace sensation for team India in recent times. After the Indian T20 League 2022, this young pacer has earned his place in the national team also.
Fans have been also happy with the sheer pace and top performances from this bowler. In that breakthrough Indian T20 League season, Malik took 22 wickets in 14 matches, at an average of 20.18. As of now, this young pacer has played eight ODIs and eight T20Is for the Men in Blue. In those matches, he has taken 13 ODI wickets and 11 T20I wickets.
“I will be the first person to hug Umran Malik in case he broke my world record of fastest delivery.” – Shoaib Akhtar
Due to his super speed, Umran has always been compared with Shoaib Akhtar. Umran has been an essential part of team India in the recent home series against Sri Lanka and the Kiwis. Ahead of the first T20I against the Lankans, the young pacer had a conversation with News24. The Indian pacer was asked if he aims to break Akhtar’s long-standing record or not. In reply to that, Malik said: “Right now, I’m only thinking about performing well for the country. If I do well, and if I’m lucky, I’ll break that. But I don’t think about it at all.”
“You don’t get to realise how fast you’ve bowled during the match. It’s only when we come back after the game when we get to know how fast I was. During the game, my only focus is on bowling in the right areas and picking wickets,” Umran Malik further added. Meanwhile, in reply to such statements, Shoaib Akhtar opened up with Sportskeeda.
He said: “I’ll be happy if he (Umran) breaks my record. But in the process of breaking it, I hope he doesn’t break his bones. What I mean is that he stays fit.” Now, he came up with another statement over Umran Malik. He said: “I will be the first person to hug Umran Malik in case he broke my world record of fastest delivery. World record is nothing for me when it comes to love for Kashmir.” But, the young pacer from India is form Jammu, not Kashmir. So, fans started to troll him and came up with their views on the social media platform.
