Didn't join politics to check prices of 'aloo, tamatar' - PM Imran Khan makes bizarre remarks

Imran Khan is unarguably one of the greatest cricketers of all time. At his peak, he was simply the best. There's a reason why cricket pundits rate him so highly. Under his leadership, Pakistan won the 1992 World Cup.

Alongside his cricketing records, he is loved by the people of his country as well. Thus, he became the Prime Minister of Pakistan in 2018. Since then, he has been the face of the nation. He became the PM in 2018.

Like every politician, Khan has had his fair share of criticisms. The cricketer-turned-politician was recently in the news for a statement he made while defending the rising inflation. As the opposition parties accused him of mismanaging the economy, he defended him with a bizarre analogy.

During a political rally in Hafizabad city in Punjab province, Khan said that he didn't become a politician to know the prices of potatoes and tomatoes. He stated that he joined politics to serve the people. Thus, his statement became viral instantly.

"I didn't join politics to know the prices of 'aloo and tamatar' (potatoes and tomatoes). I joined it for the sake of the country's youth. If we want to become a great nation, we will have to support the truth, and this is what I have been preaching for the last 25 years," said Imran Khan.

In the meanwhile, he also blamed several political parties, as well as a few leaders, for remaining quiet during the US drone strikes in Pakistan between 2008 and 2018. The organizations and individuals he critiqued were Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari. The general elections in the country are all set to take place next year.
