‘Dhoni ko indirectly Buddha bol Diya’ - Fans react as Arijit Singh MS Dhoni's feet during Indian T20 League 2023 opening ceremony

On 31 March 2023, the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League kicked off in Ahmedabad. Gujarat took on Chennai in the season opener. Fans witnessed a great match between the sides and Gujarat came out as the winner. Hardik Pandya began the season with a win while it was a disappointing loss for MS Dhoni and his men.

However, before the match, an opening ceremony took palace where several celebrities like Rashmika Mandanna, Tamanaah Bhatia, and Arijit Singh were seen performing. They entertained the crowd and at the end of the show, two captains also came up to the stage to have a photo with the Indian T20 League trophy. There, MS Dhoni was seen greeting everyone and when he went to greet Arijit, the singer was seen touching Dhoni’s feet.

MS Dhoni scored 14* runs off seven balls in the match

Seeing that, fans went crazy and some videos, and images of it went viral instantly. Fans were surprised to see such respect from the singing sensation of India toward the former team India skipper. Speaking of the match, Pandya won the toss and asked Chennai to bat first. They scored 178 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 92 runs off 50 balls, including four fours and nine sixes. For Gujarat, Shami, Rashid Khan, and Joseph took two wickets each.

MS Dhoni played a little cameo as he scored 14* runs off seven balls, including one six and one four. In reply, the home side chased down the target in 19.2 overs with five wickets in hand. Shubman Gill was the highest scorer as he scored 63 runs off 36 balls, including six fours and three sixes. For Chennai, Rajvardhan Hangargekar took three wickets for 36 runs in his four overs. Rashid Khan won the player of the match award for his all-round performances.
