Former Indian batter Gautam Gambhir keeps hitting the headlines for his comments and opinions either on the teams or individuals. Recently, he made another statement about the former Indian skipper and senior batter Virat Kohli. Gambhir went on to advise Kohli that the latter should not play for his personal milestones and focus to contribute to the team.

“The mindset of scoring runs, and effective ones, with the help of which your team wins. No point in scoring runs that just go in your records or fifties or hundreds. Even if you make 40 or even 20, make it at such a rate that it helps your team post 170-180. And if you’re chasing, make sure that it takes the pressure off your middle order,” said Gambhir to Star Sports.

“When you go in such tournaments, you have to keep your personal records at home. Individual records don’t matter in such tournaments. Even if you score 200 runs in the tournament and your team wins, that will be your legacy. But if you score 500 runs and the team gets knocked out, then those runs are of no use,” he added later.

Before discussing further on Gambhir’s remarks, it would be better to revisit the selfless attitude during the second of the three-match ODI series against South Africa. It was the moment when the 33-year-old denied taking a single and decided to be at non-strike when he was playing on 49. He asked Dinesh Karthik to continue smashing runs with the maximums.

However, Gambhir’s comments on Kohli didn’t go down well with some of the Indian cricket fans and they took no time in lashing out at the two-time World Cup winner batter. Fans took to Twitter to show the reality to the former opener.

Here’s how fans reacted to the opinion of Gautam Gambhir:

Notably, India will start their campaign in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 on the 23rd of October against the arch-rivals Pakistan at MCG in Melbourne.
