For the unversed, defending a total of 168, the Indian team failed to pick any wicket, letting the English openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales chase down the total. While the Three Lions skipper scored an unbeaten 80, Hales, who started firing right from the start, scored 86 and helped England crush India without losing a wicket.

Fans, who were humiliated by the loss, started trending the hashtag asking to boycott the upcoming Indian T20 League. A few went over the board and said that earning a lot of money from the classy league has ruined Indian cricket and its players.

Many former cricketers, including Atul Wassan, who said that earning a lot of money in the league forces Indian players to not take accountability, claimed that they become superstars on the back of their performances in the tournament.

“The threshold for satisfaction has gotten really low. Despite losing, these players will be superstars. They’ve been rewarded a lot more for a lot less, facile wins. On Indian T20 League wins, they have become superstars. If a player performs well in a bilateral series, he is given four contracts. They think that even if they lose the World Cup, nothing is lost. Life goes on,” Wassan said on ABP news.

Amid all the chaos, the mini-auction for the upcoming edition of the Indian T20 League will take place on December 23, in Kochi and it remains to see if the league would retain its reputation post-India's humiliating exit in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022.
