All participating teams have announced their list of released and retained players for ahead of the mini-auction for the next edition of the Indian T20 League. Meanwhile the multi-time Champions, Chennai has retained some of the big names including the likes of Caribbean star Dwayne Bravo and senior Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
Meanwhile the CEO of Chennai, Kasi Viswanathan has also come up with a big statement regarding the team’s captaincy in the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League. Viswanathan has also cleared if the regular skipper and former legendary Indian skipper MS Dhoni will lead the franchise in the 2023 edition.
Here’s what Kasi Viswanathan said about the captaincy of Chennai in the Indian T20 League 2023
“Obviously everybody knows that Thalaivan (MS Dhoni) is the one who is going to lead the side and he will do his best and the team will do well,” said Viswanathan following the announcement of the released and retained players for the next edition of the tournament.
“It is a very tough call as far as retention is concerned. As you know that CSK has been very passionate with the players, and they have also been contributing so well to the franchise. It becomes very difficult for us to decide while releasing the players. The contribution they have made to CSK will always be cherished and we know that yes if there is an opportunity for any of them to come back, they will be back in CSK colors. See, a word to the fans is that we expect to do well. We had one bad season and the next season we won (in 2021). Hope that we will repeat the same (in 2023),” he added later.
Later on, summing up his statement, Viswanathan also talked about the experience of returning to the home ground. Subsequently, he also opened up about the tactic of the management behind releasing the players ahead of the mini-auction.
“Obviously, the last two years we were not able to play at home and the current decision is that we will be able to play in our home ground. We have taken that into account, and the team management based on that has decided to release the players,” he concluded.
