Team India locked horns with Australia in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Ahmedabad on 9 March 2023. The Men in Blue were already leading the series by 2-1. But, still, they were looking for a win to ensure their place in the final of the World Test Championship. Apart from it, fans were also keeping an eye on the first match of the two-match Test series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
The pitch was in the headlines before this match also like all other three matches. But, it turned out to be a flat wicket as Australia scored a mammoth total of 480 runs in their first innings. The Aussies won the toss and opted to bat first. Usman Khwaja was the star of the show as he scored 180 runs off 422 runs.
India win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by 2-1 against Australia
Indian bowlers toiled hard to take all 10 wickets of Australia. Ravichandran Ashwin took six wickets with the ball. Then, India got bundled out for 571 runs as both Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli scored a century each. Gill scored his second Test ton and scored 128 runs off 235 balls. Along with him, Kohli scored 186 runs off 364 balls. He finally scored a Test century after a long gap of 1205 days. It was his 28th Test ton and 75th international century. Thus, Rohit Sharma and his men gained a lead of 91 runs by the end of day four.
So, fans were expecting an enthralling battle on day five with little hope of India winning the match. But, they managed only to take two wickets for 175 runs in 78.1 overs and the skippers of both teams mutually decided to finish the game as a draw. Thus, India won the series by 2-1 against Australia. Virat Kohli won the player of the match award while both Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin won the player of the series award together. On the other hand, the Kiwis defeated the Lankans in the first Test. Hence, India got qualified for the final of WTC as they will take on the Aussies.
