Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) locked horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing IPL on 14 April 2023. KKR were coming off after a thrilling win over Gujarat Titans (GT) while SRH also had a convincing win over Punjab Kings (PBKS). So, both teams were looking to continue their winning momentum in this clash.
Speaking of the match, Nitish Rana won the toss and asked SRH to bat first. The match took place at Eden Gardens and therefore, home fans were hoping for a good performance from Nitish Rana and his men. For SRH, Harry Brook and Mayank Agarwal came out to open the innings.
SRH defeated KKR by 23 runs in IPL 2023
Agarwal scored just nine runs off 13 balls. Then, Rahul Tripathi failed as he scored nine runs off four balls, including two fours. Then, skipper Aiden Markram scored 50 runs off 26 balls, including two fours and five sixes. He stitched up a solid partnership of 72 runs for the third wicket with Brook. After that, Abhishek Sharma scored 32 runs off 17 balls, including three fours and two sixes. But, it was Harry Brook who stole the show, He scored 100* runs off 55 balls, including 12 fours and three sixes. Heinrich Klassen also smashed 12 runs off six balls and SRH scored 228 runs for four wickets in 20 overs. For KKR, Andre Russell took three wickets for 22 runs in 2.1 overs while Varun Chakravarthy picked up one wicket.
For the chase, Narayan Jagadeesan and Rahmanullah Gurbaz came out as openers. But, Gurbaz failed cheaply as he got out on a three-ball duck. Venkatesh Iyer and Sunil Narine also got out on 10 runs and a duck respectively. Jagadeesan got out after scoring 36 runs off 21 balls. Russell scored only three runs off six balls. Then, Nitish Rana scored 75 runs off 41 balls, including five fours and six sixes. Rinku Singh also smashed fifty off 27 balls. But, in the last over, KKR needed 32 runs. Finally, Rinku remained not out on 58* runs and KKR lost the match by 23 runs.
