On 7 April 2023, LSG took on SRH at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in the ongoing IPL. However, ahead of the clash, all eyes were on Aiden Markram as he was about to lead the team in the game. As he was playing for South Africa against the Netherlands, Markram missed the season opener for Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, ahead of this season, SRH appointed Aiden Markram as their new captain. Recently, he also led the same franchise in the inaugural season of the SA20 tournament to the title as Sunrisers Eastern Cape won the tournament. Markram was the player of the tournament as he scored 366 runs and grabbed 11 wickets.

Aiden Markram scored a golden duck against LSG in IPL 2023

After being appointed as the captain of the Hyderabad and getting the opportunity to work with Brian Lara, Aiden Markram said: "Very excited. We have worked briefly together last year when he was batting coach and we got on really well, certainly looking forward to working with him. We actually going to meet up now, he is the batting coach for the West Indies Test series. So we are going to see each other a bit in the next two weeks”.

Speaking of the match, Markram won the toss and opted to bat first. But, the pitch turned out to be a tricky one for batters as LSG spinners were on a roll. SRH lost two wickets for 50 runs in 7.5 overs. Then, the Hyderabad skipper came out to open the innings. But, on the first delivery, his off-stump got uprooted by Krunal Pandya and Aiden Markram scored a golden duck on his captaincy debut for SRH. Seeing that, fans went crazy and slammed the Protea batter on social media. Hyderabad scored 121 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs as Krunal Pandya picked up three wickets for 18 runs in four overs.
