'Captain Rohit hai' - Fans troll Rohit Sharma as India gets fined 60 per cent of match fees for slow over-rate in 1st ODI against NZ

In what it seems to be a big blow, team India under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma has been fined 60% of the match fees for maintaining the slow over-rate in the first of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. This penalty on the men in blue has been confirmed by cricket’s governing council in an official statement.

“India was fined 60 percent of their match fee for slow over-rate against New Zealand in the first ODI in Hyderabad on 18 January. India was ruled to be three overs short of their target by Javagal Srinath of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. Time allowances were taken into consideration before arriving at the decision,” said the governing council in the official statement.

“’ In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined 20 percent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time,” reads the statement later.

Later on, the governing council also cleared that the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has accepted this verdict from the officials.

“Rohit Sharma, the India captain, accepted the offense leveled by On-field umpires Anil Chaudhary and Nitin Menon, third umpire K N Ananthapadmanabhan and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal,” concluded the governing council in an official statement.

Although Indian fans being Indian fans as always, have got no chill after this announcement of Team India being penalized. They took to Twitter to troll the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and his team as well for their sluggish approach during the match against the Kiwis.

Now, India and New Zealand will lock horns in the second of the three-match ODI series at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. Both teams will play this match on Saturday, the 21st of January.
