‘Bowling ka standard bhi dekhle bhai’ - Fans react as Guruswamy Ajitesh smashes match-winning 112 runs against Lyca Kovai Kings in TNPL 2023

On 17 June 2023, Lyca Kovai Kings locked horns with Nellai Royal Kings in the ongoing TNPL 2023. Nellai Royal Kings won the toss and opted to bowl first. Both teams were looking for their second win in the tournament after winning their respective season openers. While batting first, Kovai Kings scored 181 runs for six wickets in 20 overs.

Sai Sudharsan played another gem of a knock as he scored 90 runs off 52 balls, including seven fours and four sixes. Along with him, Suresh Kumar scored 33 runs off 24 balls, including three fours and one six while other batters came up with some small contributions. For Royal Kings, M Poiyamozhi took three wickets for 29 runs in four overs.

Apart from him, Sonu Yadav took one wicket for 42 runs in three overs. In reply, the Royal Kings skipper, Arun Karthik failed for a golden duck as their first wicket fell on one run only on the board. Then, Guruswamy Ajitesh came up to bat at number three and put up a partnership of 76 runs for the second wicket. Sri Neranjan scored 25 runs off 29 balls, including two fours and one six. After that, Ajitesh continued to play shots all around the ground and scored 112 runs off 60 balls, including seven fours and eight sixes.

His knock was crucial as they chased down the target in 20 overs. It was a thrilling finish to the match as they needed eight runs off the last four balls. Then, Ajitesh took a single and Mithun got out on the following delivery. After that, Poiyamozhi came and scored seven runs on the last two deliveries to seal the deal for his team. Ajitesh won the Player of the Match Award for his knock. Thus, it was the second consecutive win for Nellai Royal Kings while Lyca Kovai Kings suffered their first loss of the season.
