Since the Coimbatore final was postponed due to bad weather, Chepauk Super Gillies and Lyca Kovai Kings shared the trophy during the 2022 Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) season. To prepare for any future weather risks, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association decided to add reserve days for all four playoff games beginning this season.

The seventh season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League begins in Coimbatore on June 12. The first qualifying round (July 7) and the elimination round (July 8) will both take place in Salem. On July 10, Tirunelveli will host Qualifier 2, and the final will take place on July 12. The TNPL will hold matches in four different cities across the state: Tirunelveli, Salem, Dindigul, and Coimbatore.

‘TNPL is a tournament that is played with the same intensity as IPL’ – Shahrukh Khan

The Decision Review System (DRS) will also be made available for the first time in the league, according to Dr. RN Baba, assistant secretary of the TNCA, but clubs cannot use DRS for wide or no-ball calls. For this season, the impact player rule has also been changed.

Shahrukh Khan, a player for the Punjab Kings and the captain of the Lyca Kovai Kings, attended the occasion and supported the use of technology in umpire decisions. He also commended the TNPL for providing a forum for talent discovery.

‘’TNPL is a tournament that is played with the same intensity as IPL. T Natarajan first demonstrated this with his excellent yorker-bowling skills. And we all saw how Sai Sudharsan (who first came into the limelight thanks to TNPL) batted in the IPL final. Then there are also players like Varun Chakravarthy, who shone for KKR, and Sonu Yadav,” said Shahrukh.

The TNPL will implement the Impact Player concept this season after seeing how well it worked in the IPL 2023. This new rule will surely increase the excitement of the TNPL games. Chennai fans won't be able to watch the game at their home stadium, MA Chidambaram Stadium, because the location will be under construction.
