After Jason Roy and Alex Hales, another English player is likely to pull out of the Indian T20 League’s 15th season. Both Hales and Roy cited bio-bubble fatigue for their decision to pull out of the tournament.
The Lucknow franchise signed English pacer Mark Wood for 7.5 Cr INR in the mega auction ahead of the season. The franchise invested a lot of faith in the star English pacer due to his extra pace.
However, reports are in that Mark Wood might miss the entire upcoming season of the Indian T20 League as he is struggling with an elbow injury. His acute pain in the right elbow was felt during a net session in Antigua. Notably, Wood only bowled five overs in Antigua on the third morning of the first test. Reports also say that it will take more than 15 days for Wood to be able to bowl. His presence in the Indian T20 League is doubted as ECB and Wood himself would not be risking aggravating the injury.
While the reasons for Wood and Archer seems justified, Hales and Roy’s decision to pull out may not go down well with the franchises. Mention worthy is the fact that in 2021, five English players pulled out of the Indian T20 League season. This in the future might result in the franchises not deciding to buy English players for their squads.
Regarding the same, former Indian opener and cricket analyst, Akash Chopra tweeted – “English players pulling out from the IPL citing bubble-fatigue issues…… after making themselves available knowing fully well what they were signing up for… might make the IPL teams sceptical about looking in their direction in the future”.
