Speaking of the match, RCB came to this clash after winning two back-to-back games. Faf du Plessis played those matches as an impact player. Therefore, Virat Kohli captained the side. Against KKR, he came out for the toss and elected to bowl first after winning it.

After the toss, Kohli said: “Decided to bowl first. No brainer. Evening game at Chinnaswamy, we've chased well here. It was unexpected but nothing I'm not used to (stand-in captaincy). It's been fun so far because of the way the team has been playing. Faf will be playing the impact role again. Hopefully, he'll be back leading from the next game. Looks like a great pitch, the usual Chinnaswamy pitch that we expect.”

While batting first, KKR scored 200 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. Jason Roy scored 56 runs off 29 balls, including four fours and five sixes. Nitish Rana scored 48 runs off 21 balls, including three fours and four sixes. During the finishing stage, David Wiese scored 12* runs off just three balls, including two sixes. For RCB, both Wanindu Hasaranga and Vijaykumar Vyshak took two wickets each. While Mohammed Siraj took the other one.
