With a stunning 3-1 victory over England in the four-match Test series, India confirmed a slot for themselves in the final of the World Test Championship. They will be up against New Zealand in the summit clash from June 18 to June 22 at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Most of the Indian players are currently participating in the IPL and are expected to travel straight to England from their IPL bio bubbles in a chartered flight.
Upon their arrival in England, the players will be required to complete a mandatory 10-day quarantine period in wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. If reports are to be believed, the BCCI will select a 24-member squad for the World Test Championship by May end.
The Chetan Sharma-led selection committee has handed a list of 35 selected players for the final of the tournament and the board will be trimming it down to 24 players in the coming weeks. The selected 24-member squad will also participate in the five-match Test series between India and England, scheduled from August 4 to September 14 in England.
In another development, it is learned that the IPL bound New Zealand players, who are part of the New Zealand squad for the Test series in England and the WTC final, will also travel to England with Indian players.
There are a total of 10 New Zealand players in IPL 2021. Out of these 10 players, captain Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, Kyle Jamieson, and Mitchell Santner are a part of the Test squad. Thus, it is a possibility that the four players travel with India to England as it won’t be logically possible for them go back home and then leave for England due to the strict COVID restrictions in UK.
